THE WAR BEGINS.

THE WAR BEGINS.
A great battle began. both sides were well-matched with brave warriors. thousand of rakshasas were slain by the vaanaras who hurled huge boulders and giant trees to crush them.rama ha learned from vibheeshana about the defences of lanka.the battle raged through out the day and night, when the ralshasas, became stronger, they continued to fight. then INDRAJIT, well- versed in black magic, became invisible. he shot 'sarpa-astras'(serpent darts)at rama and lakshmana who fell down immobile. the vaanaras, led by sugriva, angada, hanuman and jambavan, felt helpless as they stared at the two princes of ayodhya.vibheeshana came up and saw what happened. '' do not grieve! rama and lashmana will become all right soon! just look , their faces look bright and their eyes are glowing. some weapons has made them temporarily immobile!''but ravana sent some rakshasis and told to inform sita the deaths of rama and lakshmana.so the rakshasis took sita in the pushpaka vimana to the battlefield. sita broke out into tears when she saw rama and lakshmana lying as if dead. ''every thing is over for me !what shall i do now?'' she cried helplessly. trijata, the rakshai who was kinder in her attitude to sita then the rest, was present.she peered at rama and lakshmana closely and told sita not to worry as the brothers were not dead, but stunned by some weapon. sita returned to the asoka vana.as the arrows powered by block magic weakened, rama recovered gradually.but lakshmana lay unmoving still. rama wept when he saw his brother.then a huage huge waves rose in the sea and the winds blew alarmingly as a great bird circled down. it was garuda, the mount of vishnu.
the moment garuda touched the ground, the serpents binding rama and lakshmana slithered away guickly. garuda gently stroked the bodies of the two ayodhya princes, so that they regained strength and sat up. the magic weapons used by indrajit, recognised their old foe, garuda the eagle and departed.the battle resumed with greater force then before.
