indrajit returned to the battlefield and saw that his effort had gone in vain.once again he used black magic to fight with the vaanaras.with the help of this, he conjured up a maaya sita and killed her in the sight of the vaanara army.they rushed to inform rama who fainted when he heard this, but vibheeshana calmed rama.
''ravaana will never allow sita to be killed. it is just by indrajit to gain time to perform an as uric sacrifice of great power. if the sacrific is performed, we can never defeat indrajit. so let lakshmana, hanuman and sugriva to prevent the sacrifice from being completed. i will also go with them,for i know the temple, where indrajit will be in!'' he said
the vannara army went lakshmana, haunman, sugriva and vibheeshana to the temple where indrajit was performing the sacrifice. he was forced to abandon it and begin fitting against lakshmana. lakshmana stood on hanuman's shoulder and attacked indrajit, the fight went on for guite some time.at lost lakshmana shot the indra-astra. he invoked the name of rama and sent it forth. indrajit's head was sliced from his body and fell to the ground. there was much cheering that dreadful foe had been killed.
ravana was totally shattered by the death of his beloved son, indeajit.''my beloved son, indrajit, before whom even the devas trembled...are you gone from me forever? what shall i do now?'' he cried, soon his grief gave way to burning fury.''i shall go out at once and avenge your death!''
