RAMA SLAYS VALI.

RAMA SLAYS VALI. sugriva went boldly to kishkinda and stood before vali's palace.''ho vali come out and fight with me!'' he shouted. with an angry roar, vali emerged. he and sugriva wrestled for a long time as both brothers were very strong and brave. sugriva waited for rama to strike. but, rama who was hiding behind a tree, was utterly puzzled. both sugriva and vali looked very much alike in form and face. so he did not shoot the arrow. in the meantime, sugriva got the worst of the fight and ran away bleeding profusely from his wounds to the safety of the rishyamooka forest. he was furious when he saw rama.''o rama ! i did expect such behaviour from you!''if you did not wish to kill vali, why did you not say so? i trusted you and all i got was a severe beating!''''o sugriva! do not be so angry, but listen to my problem. i could not shoot an arrow in case i killed the worng one-you and vali are so much alike that i was very puzzled and helpless.'' ''go again with a garland of creepers.''
so sugriva wore the garland of creepers and went to challenge vali.sugriva was filled with fresh confidence and fought bravely with vali. however he soon began to tire.this was the moment rama was waiting for, as he behind a tree. he shot a deadly arrow which pierced vali's chest. vali saw rama ''o rama! how could you act so meanly against drama and shoot an arrow atonce engaged in combat with another?did you know that this necklace wich i am wearing was given to me by indra, protects me from opponents who face me in combat, and so hid behind a tree? i did not expect such a base attitude from a member of the illustrious ishvaku lineif you wanted help against ravana, i would have willingly fought and defeated him easily!''
rama laughed gently and replied,''o vali! it is not proper for you to talk about dharma. were you righteous when you would not even give sugriva a chance to explain his part of the story, but drove your own brother from kishkinda and deprived himof his wife too?sughriva is my dear friend and understand what it is to lose a wife!''rama looked around he saw his wife and son are weeping. ''you two are not to grieve! take the necklace which our father, indra, gave me. it will protect you from enemies!'' saying this, vali breathed his last.
